New Delhi, July 21

The Rajasthan Congress crisis continued as the state high court on Tuesday deferred the decision on the Sachin Pilot camp petitions until July 24, asking Speaker CP Joshi not to act on the disqualification notices issued to rebel MLAs for three days.

HC reserved the judgment until July 24, requesting the Speaker to keep the notices on hold. The Speaker had earlier extended the deadline for rebels to file their replies to the notices until 5.30 pm today. With the court yet to pronounce the verdict, the Speaker has now further extended the deadline till 5.30 pm on Friday.

Sacked Rajasthan Deputy CM Pilot and 18 other dissident Congress lawmakers have challenged the Speaker's notices issued under the anti-defection law, saying that they have not defected and not given up party's membership voluntarily.

With the court's partial relief to the dissident camp, CM Ashok Gehlot today held a state Cabinet meeting at a hotel to discuss possible options for the future.

Congress sources said calling an Assembly session was one of the options as the state government would like to prove its majority in a floor test sooner than later.

The Congress has been mulling a session so that they can issue a fresh whip to all MLAs to participate in a trust vote which the CM can seek. Defiance of the whip can lead to action against rebel MLAs, thereby exerting pressure on at least some of them to return to the Congress fold. The schedules of the session were still being discussed, it is learnt. The CM had called a legislature party meet earlier today and again slammed Pilot.

Meanwhile, Pilot has sent a legal notice to Congress MLA Giriraj Malinga over his allegation that he was offered money by the former Deputy CM.
