Jammu, August 31
Three members of a Lashkar networking team based in Mahore area of Reasi district have been arrested for bid to revive terrorism in the district and certain parts of the Kashmir valley.
Schoolteacher Ghulam Hussain, Abdul Aziz and Ishfaq Ahmed, all Reasi residents, were in touch with their handler Mohammad Qasim, who crossed over to PoK in 2002. An FIR had been registered and an SIT set up for further investigation, said Rashmi Wazir, Reasi SSP.
"While checking their bank accounts, we detected benami transactions. They were trying to lure family members of former terrorists," she said.
The SSP said based on the information provided by the Mahore police station that some persons in the area were in touch with LeT terrorists in Pakistan, a case was filed on August 5 and an SIT set up.
During the probe, with the help of technical data analysis support from the Army and Intelligence units, it emerged that Qasim was the mastermind behind the module.
"They were trying to set up a network of overground workers (OGWs)," said another police source. —TNS
