A member of the BJP national council from 1989 to 1996, he was elected to the Lok Sabha for a third term when the BJP swept the polls in 2014. Challenges ahead

  • Restoring normalcy

  • Ensuring the revival of India-friendly political spectrum

  • Reaching out to people

Sinha faces several challenges, such as transforming the situation in Jamp;K, restoring normalcy and ensuring the revival of the India-friendly political spectrum. "He is a doer. He knows how to get work done," said a source, who has known him as a politician and an administrator.

Sinha was picked by the PM and the Home Minister because of his ability to navigate difficult situations and deliver results. Political groups, including sections of the BJP, feel that the political space has shrunk not only because of the terror-driven killings and abductions, but also because of administrative apathy. Sinha, a dedicated political worker with immense administrative skills, has also been chosen because of his ability to connect with the people, the key to restoring normalcy. The Kashmiris are yet to fully reconcile with the changes in Jamp;K after the abrogation of Article 370.
