About 23 mortar shells hit different parts of the Afghan capital on Saturday, killing at least eight persons and wounding 31. The Taliban denied any role. The mortar barrage came as representatives of the Afghan Government and the Taliban continued to hold talks in Qatar.
In an oblique reference to Pakistan, India told the UN that Afghanistan could succeed only when terrorism no longer flowed across the Durand Line.

India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations TS Tirumurti said: "For durable peace, we have to put an end to terrorist safe havens and sanctuaries operating across the Durand Line.
