Days after the Bihar poll loss, the Congress continued to spar publicly with the party's Lok Sabha leader today saying those unhappy with the party were free to leave.

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury's jibe was targeted at former minister and Congress MP Kapil Sibal, who recently criticised the party leadership for its inertia in the face of election debacles.

"Those unhappy with the functioning of the Congress and its state of affairs are free to leave. They have the freedom to form a new party or join any other if they feel the Congress is not the place for them," said Adhir reacting to Sibal's remarks that the people did not see the Congress as a viable alternative anymore and that time for introspection was over.

Adhir also questioned Sibal if he had campaigned in Bihar elections or any of the previous ones.

"Sermonising from air-conditioned rooms is easy and lecturing others without doing anything yourself is not called introspection. Sibal enjoys proximity to the Gandhis and could have flagged his concerns in party forums instead of embarrassing the Congress in public. He is senior and has access to party's top leaders," said Adhir, who is a permanent invitee to the Congress Working Committee.

Adhir is the second senior Congressman to take on Sibal for his public remarks against the party. The first was Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. The ongoing open bickering in the Congress signals a massive churn within and a section of the Congress feels matters could well be headed towards a split.
