Maharashtra, on Wednesday, reported three new cases of Covid-19, taking the state’s total number of confirmed cases to 45.
The three new cases include— a 21-year-old male from Pimpri-Chinchwad with travel history to Philippines, Singapore and Colombo; a house-help of a Coronavirus positive case from Mumbai having travel history to US and a 50-year-old male from Ratnagiri with a travel history to Dubai.
The state today released a list of 10 private hospitals where isolation bed facility is available. These hospitals include: Jaslok Hospital (5 beds), H N Reliance Hospital (2), Hinduja Hospital (20), Kokilaben Hospital (17), Raheja Hospital (12), Jagjivan Ram Western Railway Hospital (10), Gurunanak Hospital (2), St. Elizabeth Hospital (2), Bombay Hospital (4), Lilavati Hospital (15).
State health minister, Rajesh Tope in a tweet on the micro-blogging site Twitter said that labs will be set up at eight places in the state. “Labs will be will be started in three places from tomorrow. A new lab at KEM and Kasturba Hospital in Mumbai, a new testing lab at BJ Medical College in Pune, is set to begin tomorrow,” he tweeted.
On Tuesday, COVID-19 claimed its first victim in Mumbai, prompting the state government to ramp up testing and isolation facilities and take help from private hospitals and laboratories even as it stopped short of restricting public transport.
A 63-year-old man, who had travelled to Dubai with his wife and son, died at Kasturba Hospital in the city due to complications arising from the novel coronavirus infection. The wife of the deceased, who has also tested positive, is undergoing treatment and her condition is said to be stable.
Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray reassured citizens that government offices and essential services will function. Public transport, especially buses and local trains in Mumbai will also continue to operate at full capacity. “We will review this decision in the next 3-4 days,” he had said on Tuesday after a meeting of the state cabinet.
On Tuesday, pharmaceutical companies, banks and health experts agreed to join hand with the Maharashtra government to tackle the pandemic. Private companies will provide for medicines, masks, sanitizers, ventilators and other essential items from their corporate social responsibility funds.
