Solan, July 25

The office of the Superintendent of Police (SP) at Baddi and the Barotiwala police station were sealed for 48 hours post-sanitisation today after a theft accused tested positive for Covid-19.

Hailing from Akkanwali village in Baddi, the 48-year-old accused was among five persons arrested from Dhanas in Chandigarh on Thursday.

Baddi SP Rohit Malpani said 21 policemen, including a station house officer, had been quarantined. The Barotiwala police station will operate from the women police station as a stop-gap arrangement. With his office sealed, the SP's working has been hampered as there is no administrative backup to facilitate his functioning.

Health experts have raised concern over a looming Covid crisis in the Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh (BBN) industrial belt of Solan district as a large number of cases are being reported from the area.

Industrial belt hit

  • Industrial workforce is emerging as major contributor to Covid cases in Solan
  • 448 of total 506 positive cases in the district pertain to the workforce and their contacts
  • 314 active cases are in Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh belt, which is 37% of active cases
