There is no clear mortality benefit of convalescent plasma use in seriously ill Covid-19 patients, preliminary results from an ongoing study at AIIMS, New Delhi, have shown. AIIMS doctors conducted the study on 30 severe Covid patients. Fifteen were administered plasma along with standard trseatment while the remaining 15 were administered only plasma. Initial findings have shown similar levels of mortality in both groups. Doctors said plasma therapy must be used judiciously and families of Covid patients should not insist on plasma use and should leave the judgment to experts.
Rs890.32-cr package
The Centre on Thursday released Rs890.32-cr second instalment of the Covid-19 Emergency Response and Health System Preparedness Package to 22 states and UTs, including Punjab
ICMR is currently undertaking multi-centre studies on the benefits of convalescent plasma after which the Health Ministry will take a considered view on the use.
Meanwhile, the Covid caseload today climbed to 19,64,536 with a daily surge of 56,282 cases. Total recoveries are now 13,28,336 with the cure rate rising to 67.62 per cent and the toll reaching 40,699 with 904 deaths in 24 hours. As of today, there are 5,95,501 active cases in India.
